Albert Harold
Noice
May 4, 1927 – August 24, 2020
Dr. Albert Noice (93), of San Diego, CA, who died on August 24, 2020 after a brief illness, was a lifelong lover of music and devoted much of his life to both performing and to music education.
Al was born on May 4, 1927, in Lisbon, North Dakota, and began playing the trumpet around age 12. This passion continued into his service with the U.S. Marine Corps where he was assigned to one of its musical groups, which even had the opportunity to perform in China in 1946.
After his WWII service, Al played with a number of different big bands and orchestras and actively toured the country with these groups.
For seven years he directed his own band - the Al Noyce Orchestra (name adjusted, some joked, for obvious reasons!) - playing most of the popular and famous ballrooms, especially in the Midwest. His group was voted the top orchestra in Minneapolis in 1957 and 1958.
Noice did his undergraduate work at the MacPhail College of Music in Minneapolis and then taught high school band in Ceylon, MN before heading to the University of Northern Colorado for his doctorate.
Dr. Noice joined the faculty of Moorhead State University (MN) as a professor in the music department where he also was the director of the award winning MSU Stage Band.
Southern California always called to both Al and his wife Shauna and after 25 years at MSU, the couple settled in San Diego.
Shauna preceded her husband in death and both are buried at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
