Albino "Al"
Villarreal
October 19, 1928 – September 30, 2023
Born on October 19, 1928 in McAllen, Texas, Al relocated with his family to Los Angeles, CA in 1935 where he would spend his formative years, until enlisting in the U.S. Navy after the end of WWII at age 19. He proudly and honorably served his country for 20 years until retirement. After earning a degree in Land Surveying Technology he embarked on his second career in the civil engineering department of the County of San Diego, retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
His journey would take him to the Seven Oaks neighborhood in Rancho Bernardo in 1989 where he would enjoy many post-retirement activities and touch the hearts and lives of many neighbors and friends. He also received achievement recognition awards for his technical expertise on the HOA's architectural review committee. He was also active in local square dancing groups where he would broaden his circle of friends. Al enjoyed the challenge of keeping his analytical and critical-thinking skills sharp by solving complex trigonometry problems out of his old college textbooks, and teaching novices the strategic game of chess. He also enjoyed keeping his reflexes honed by playing recreational ping-pong daily at the local community center with his friends. A man of many skills, talents, wisdom and attributes, his highest priority was the care and love he gave to his family, and appreciating the value of relationship building over his lifetime. He will be missed by so many.
Al is survived by daughter, Gail Focht, son, Carl, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Lillian Hanson.
