Obituary

Angelo Rebello passed away peacefully in his home on December 3rd, 2022 in Escondido, California.  He was 80 years old.

Our beloved "Uncle Angelo" was born on October 3rd, 1942 in San Diego, California to Portuguese immigrants Amaro and Antonieta Rebelo.  Angelo was the youngest of three children.  He grew up in the town of Point Loma alongside his brother Joel Rebelo and sister Mary Rebelo.  Angelo was also blessed with loving paternal half brothers, Larry Gomes, that was very close to him, and Al Gomes.  Angelo loved watching and playing sports growing up and always enjoyed playing pranks on his sister and others with his brother Joel and nephew Rick Gomes.  Angelo went to Catholic schools growing up and was very proud of his Catholic faith.

He attended Point Loma High School and afterwards enlisted in the Army.  He served in Korea during the Vietnam War.  This adventurous chapter in his life stoked his desire in his later years to travel and visit with all his cousins and relatives around the world.  Angelo loved his Portuguese heritage and seeing where his family lived around the word was something that he cherished.  Angelo traveled to see his extended family in Madeira, Portugal, Australia, South Africa and Alaska.

Upon returning from military duty, Angelo worked at the Broadway Stores before transitioning to a 35 plus year career as a supervisor and KELCO.  Angelo had a plethora of stories and anecdotes from his time there, working with many ex-Chargers and cultivating life-long friendships.  He was quick witted and sharp and it made him a natural when it came to telling a joke and delivering a punch line.

Family was extremely important to Uncle Angelo.  He was always there for every special event, birthday, holiday or gathering.  Angelo always looked forward to the fun times and adventures he would spend with his nephew Rick, who made him laugh more than anyone.

Angelo loved the Aztecs, Chargers and Padres and could talk for hours about them with his family.  He attended years of Charger games with his niece Jolene Acierno, her husband Tom Acierno and nephews Jason and Joel Rebelo.

With his love for sports, keeping fit also became an integral part of Angelo's normal routine.  He particularly enjoyed running and he stayed in shape his entire life.

Angelo spent his retirement years close to family and enjoyed seeing his grand nephews and nieces grow up.  He was a fixture for every big sporting event or special occasion at his niece Jolene's home which he affectionately referred to as "Casa De Acierno."

Uncle Angelo was a family man and was beloved by all.  He will be missed greatly but never forgotten as the memories of our times together will always be talked about and remembered.  His legacy will live on forever.

Uncle Angelo loved and valued his Catholic faith.  Although he will be greatly missed, it gives us comfort and peace knowing that he is with our lord and savior and will most certainly dwell in the house of the lord forever.  By the grace of God and through our lord Jesus Christ we will all see him again.

Angelo is survived by his sister Mary Rebelo, nephew Rick Gomes (Lucy), niece Jolene Acierno (Tom), nephew Jason Rebelo (Anne), nephew Joel Rebelo (Rebecca), nephew Mike Rebelo (Cindy), and grand niece and nephews Domonie Baker, Wendy Yates, Ray Shepherd, Sydney Acierno, Frank Acierno, Johnny Rebelo, Charlotte Rebelo, and Ava Rebelo.
