Obituary

Anne Therese Gillespie passed away on April 15, 2022 in her home in Rancho Bernardo surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with cancer.  Anne is survived by her husband Dennis Gillespie, her three children Julie, Brian, and David, her eight grandchildren Emma, Peyton, Jase, Kaitlyn, Maggie, Nathan, Jacob, and Nash, her sisters Kathy, Elaine, and Marie, and her brother George.  Anne was preceded in death by her father George Frangie Sr., mother Mary Frangie, and brothers Thomas and John Frangie.

Anne, the first of seven children, was born in Detroit Michigan on March 2, 1947. She moved with her family to Covina, CA where Anne attended Northview High School and met Dennis, her beloved husband of 52 years.  Active in her high school, she was a song leader and involved in sports as a member of the Girls Athletic Association.  Together they graduated in 1965.  Anne and Dennis then both attended Cal Poly Pomona, graduating in 1969.  They were married in December of 1969 and moved to Rancho Bernardo in 1972.

Anne began her 32-year teaching career in 1976.  She taught at Valley, Los Penasquitos and Monterrey Ridge Elementary Schools.  During her extensive career she taught nearly 1000 children.  She was loved and admired by her students and colleagues alike.  Anne was tireless in designing innovative lessons to not only educate her students, but inspire them to achieve their potential and become lifelong learners. In addition to teaching, she was the Title I program director for 5 years.  She retired in 2008 and devoted herself to her family.   She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, supporting women educators.

Family was Anne's treasure.  She was mom to three children and Grammy to 8 grandchildren.  She often held "Grammy School" for her grandchildren helping them with their studies. It was a win-win for the children and Anne.  In recent years, Dennis and Anne enjoyed growing and pressing grapes to make wine.  It was a family event with all children and grandchildren participating.  They also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe.  Anne always wrote a blog so that her family and friends could travel along with them.

Anne was a woman of faith, wife, mother, grammy, sister, auntie, godmother, accomplished teacher, dear friend, gentle soul and a beautiful person inside and out.  She is loved deeply by everyone who had the privilege to have her touch their lives.  Her passing will leave a giant hole in our hearts, but we know there is another angel in Heaven now.
