Arthur Hernandez age 76 passed away on July 31st 2019 in his home in Poway, California.

Arthur is survived by his daughter Valerie Bautista and husband David of Poway, California; his son Arthur Hernandez Jr. and husband Joseph Cobucci of Braselton Georgia; Brothers Mario and Ruben Hernandez; sisters Sally Shaver, Lily Kenna, Eliza Rubalcaba, Rose Wynne, and  Lucy Moore; 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Arthur is preceded in death by his father, Aurelio Hernandez and mother Michaela Hernandez of Needles, California and 4 brothers Aurelio Jr, Joe, Dario, and Edward Hernandez; 1 sister Vera DeLeon, his grandson Jarin Hernandez and granddaughter Ashton Hernandez.

Arthur was born on March 22nd 1943 in Needles, California. He attended Needles High School and was an all star Athlete for the Mustangs. Although small, Arthur was known for his quickness and tenacity and this helped to lead the Mustangs to an undefeated season during his senior year. He graduated from Needles High School in 1961.

In 1964, Arthur voluntarily enlisted in the Army and was sent to Vietnam. On April 1st 1966 he was wounded in action and was later awarded a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged from the Army later that same year and returned to California where he resumed his career in retail, working at Claypools, Buyrite and Safeway/Vons Supermarkets. He retired in 2000 after 43 years in the grocery industry.

Arthur was a family man and a loving son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In his later years Arthur moved to Poway, California where he happily lived with his daughter, son in-law, grandchildren and service dogs Max and Daxx.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, August 12th at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary from 4 to 8pm with a Vigil service at 6:30pm.  A reception in honor of Arthur will be held immediately following the vigil.

Requiem Mass is scheduled on Tuesday, August 13th at 10:30am at St Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway, California.  A committal service with military honors will follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 2pm.
