Barbara Jean Johnson (Perkins) left this earth for heaven on Wednesday 4/20/22 at home surrounded by family. Barbara was born in Jonesville, TX to Bob Perkins and Florence Lee Gill. Barbara grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1960. Barbara loved to care for others and made a career of service. She worked as a dental assistant, then as a volunteer with the American Red Cross where she helped treat injured Vietnam War Vets. She later worked as a child care provider at Miramar Naval Air Station. Barbara eventually worked and retired from Pomerado Hospital as a Central Supply Technician.
Family was most important to Barbara. She always went above and beyond to make all her family feel special and loved. She was a constant supporter and encourager to family and others. Barbara was a wonderful cook who loved to entertain. She was a longtime member of Poway First Baptist Church (The Well) joining with her family in 1975.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wendell Johnson, her two daughters Jeannine Johnson Thomas (husband Reggie Thomas) and Amy Johnson Huggins (husband George Huggins). She was Nana to Amanda Kelsey Thomas, Emilee Jean Thomas, Jacob Wendell Huggins, and Aaron Walker Huggins. She is survived by three sisters, Faye Gill, Evelyn Alexander, and Terri Battee, as well as numerous extended family members.
