Barbara S.
Warren
November 29, 1931 – February 5, 2026
Barbara S. Warren entered eternal rest on February 5, 2026, in Rancho Bernardo, with her devoted husband, Carl, lovingly by her side. Born in Utica, New York, to Edmund Spangler and Marion Howard, she later made her home in Defiance, Ohio, where she graduated high school.
Her life changed forever at Kent State University, where she met Carl, the man who would become her partner in every sense. Their love grew into a marriage marked by devotion, humor, and a deep sense of shared purpose. When Carl began his service in the U.S. Army, Barbara embraced the life that came with it — supporting his career while building a home wherever they were stationed and raising their three children with unwavering love.
Their home was often filled with laughter, friendship, and music, especially during the lively gatherings they hosted, with Carl keeping rhythm on the drums. Barbara's creativity and curiosity shaped her days; she found fulfillment in painting, tending to her rose garden, and enjoying the camaraderie of her bridge group.
Together, Barbara and Carl explored the world, visiting more than 60 countries. She treasured the mementos she collected along the way — bookmarks and small souvenirs that captured the spirit of each place. Closer to home, they found comfort in familiar favorites—the San Diego Zoo, evenings at the Old Globe, and the simple pleasure of being together.
Faith, family, and friendship were the cornerstones of the life they built. Barbara's bright spirit was especially evident in her enthusiasm for "The Rookies," her beloved fantasy football team at Casa de las Campanas, where she brought her infectious smile and kindness to all who knew her.
Barbara leaves behind her husband of 73 years, Carl; her children Carla, Stephen, and Elaine; and her grandchildren Timothy, Hannah, Scott, and Kenneth. She is reunited in peace with her grandson Riley, who preceded her in death.
A viewing will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 2–4 p.m. at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at San Rafael Catholic Parish in Rancho Bernardo on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. She will be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
"Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."
