Obituary

Carin Hoelzel Mancuso, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026. Her kindness, warmth, and radiant smile touched countless lives and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Carin was born on July 23, 1956, in Canton, Ohio, to Karl and Audrey Hoelzel, who proceeded her in death. She spent her early years in Silver Lake Village near Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Our Lady of the Elms High School in 1974.

She attended Purdue University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management in 1978. She later completed her Dietetic Residency at UCSF Medical Center and became a Registered Dietitian. While beginning her residency in San Francisco, Carin met Guy—the man who would become her husband, soulmate, business partner, and the father of their two beloved children.

Carin began her professional career as a dietitian at French Hospital in San Francisco. After relocating to Colorado Springs in 1981, she worked in long-term care facilities and as a consulting dietician. Following her move to the San Diego area in 1988, she maintained a successful private practice serving several healthcare facilities throughout the region.

In the mid-1990s, Carin joined her husband, Dr. Guy Mancuso, DDS, at Twin Peaks Dentistry in Poway, where she served as office manager until her retirement in 2016. Her organizational skills, compassion, and welcoming nature helped create a caring environment for both patients and staff.

In 1990, Carin and Guy made Poway their home, eventually building the home of their dreams, where they have lived for nearly three decades. There, Carin built deep friendships and became an active and valued member of her community. She devoted many years to the Unity Church, helping develop youth programs, volunteering regularly, and establishing a pet fostering program that found loving homes for numerous dogs. She also helped organize and support a women's fellowship group that became known as “The Soul Sisters.”

Carin was deeply involved in her children's lives, she enthusiastically and actively supported her daughter's Girl Scout troop, helping foster friendships that endured through college and beyond. She found great joy in helping others and never missed an opportunity to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or bring people together. She always lived up to her name,"Carin for Everyone" because of her generous spirit and caring heart.

Carin loved spending time outdoors and most mornings found her walking her neighborhood or hiking the beautiful trails surrounding Poway.

She had an equal passion for cooking and was always seeking new recipes and creative dishes to share with family and friends. She delighted in hosting gatherings, planning celebrations, and organizing memorable adventures for those she loved.

Travel was one of Carin's greatest joys. Together, she and Guy explored many destinations throughout the world. She loved sailing and was fortunate to cruise not only along the coast of Southern California but also throughout Europe, including Croatia, Greece, France, Italy, and Corfu, as well as Australia, Belize, and much of the Caribbean.

Beginning in 2010, they spent several months each year at their villa in Jolly Harbour, Antigua, where they built a second home and a treasured circle of international friends. Some of their happiest moments were spent sailing among the Caribbean islands, often for weeks at a time, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Above all else, Carin was devoted to her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Guy; her children, Lindsey and Bryan; her grandchildren, Maison, Kade, Fletcher and Tyler; and her siblings, Chris Anders, Cathy Orpett, and Robert(Bob) Hoelzel. She was blessed with a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends, all of whom were touched by her love and generosity. Her greatest joy came from caring for  others and sharing her love with everyone she encountered.

Carin's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, her compassionate spirit, her boundless generosity, and the love she shared so freely. Though she is deeply missed, the light she brought into the world will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.

A celebration of life is being planned to honor Carin’s memory on or around her birthday, July 23, 2026. Details regarding services, memorial information, and charitable donation opportunities will be shared with family and friends once finalized.  The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this time.
