Carol L.
Bergdahl
December 27, 1938 – November 20, 2025
Carol L. Bergdahl, San Diego, died at home of pancreatic cancer on November 20, 2025. She was 86 years old.
Born in Chicago, she was the only child of the late Nels "Roy" and Mildred B. Larson. She graduated from Highland Park High School and Northwestern University with a B.S. degree in Education.
After raising her children, Ms. Bergdahl had been employed in the banking industry for many years.
She was an active member at Tierrasanta Lutheran Church in San Diego for over 25 years. Some of her favorite activities were volunteering at weekly Grace Nights, Memorial Service Luncheons, Lunch Bunch, and the annual rummage sale.
Carol was a devoted baseball fan, especially of the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs. While living part-time in Arizona for a few years, she enjoyed going to Spring Training games, and later made a "bucket list" trip to the 2023 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. She also served on boards, including her homeowners' association, and as secretary for the San Diego Madres. For several seasons, she was a volunteer usher at the Old Globe Theater and the San Diego Symphony. She enjoyed travel with friends and family, watching Jeopardy and Dancing with the Stars, playing games, dining out with friends, and baking Christmas cookies. She practiced Yoga, Pilates, and Water Aerobics until she became ill earlier this year.
A kindhearted and generous person, Carol's active life revolved around her family, especially her children, friends, neighborhood, and church.
Ms. Bergdahl is survived by her grown children, Jeffrey S. Bergdahl of San Diego, and Rev. Julie B. Bergdahl of Quakertown, Pennsylvania. She also has cousins Andre Larson (Allen), John Larson, Edward Doherty (Tonya), John Doherty (Lynn), Mary Catherine Meek (James), a niece Cherie Parker (John), a nephew David Bergdahl, and many dear friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sharp Hospice, most especially her home care nurse Gina, for their compassionate and professional care during Carol's illness. In addition, the family extends their deep appreciation to Carol's neighbors and to the people and Pastor of Tierrasanta Lutheran Church for all their kindnesses and caring over the years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12 noon at Tierrasanta Lutheran Church, followed by a luncheon and time to greet the family at the church. The service will also be live-streamed on the church website ( www.tierrasantalutheran.org ) and on the church Facebook page. A graveside service will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery, Norridge, Illinois, on Tuesday, December 16th at 11 a.m.
Donations in memory of Carol may be made to Tierrasanta Lutheran Church, 11240 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92124, or your favorite charity.
