Catherine D.
Accardi
February 5, 1935 – July 23, 2022
Catherine D. Accardi, 87, was born Catherine Agnes Dolan on February 5, 1935. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, July 23, 2022.
She is survived by four loving children; Susan Entler (Gordon), Stephen Accardi (Mary), Joseph Accardi ( Susan) and Celia McCormick (John), three beloved grandchildren; John and Lydia McCormick, and Carlo Accardi, her youngest sister Peggy Reeves of Paoli, PA, her niece and four nephews.
'Kay' as her friends called her, was the eldest daughter of three girls, born to William and Helen Dolan in Philadelphia, PA. At the age of 24, in August of 1959, she married Joseph C. Accardi and they had 4 children; Susan, Stephen, Joseph and Celia. Life took them to State College PA where they worked at Penn State University and Joe obtained his business degree in 1961. Six moves over the course of a 60-year marriage took them up the corporate ladder to St. Louis, MO, Kansas City, MO, Chicago, IL: KC and finally San Diego in 1985. In the 1990's they moved to Washington DC- Virginia area for 10 years finally returning and retiring to San Diego in 2000.
Kay was the spark in the family. As a child she admired Gene Autry and was a tomboy. She graduated from Haverford High School and worked as a secretary for Pennsylvania Bell until her marriage in 1959. As a mom she gave her time enthusiastically to her kids as cub scout and girl scout leader, a baseball team mom, band mom, a CCD pre-school teacher and mom taxi. Kay enjoyed going to 'the shore' or to 'the beach' , whichever coast she was on! As a couple, Kay and Joe enjoyed attending baseball games in San Diego, Baltimore – she loved Cal Ripken and Arizona spring training. Kay was so thrilled to become a grandmother, visiting 'the kids' as much as possible. Always a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen.
Kay was a beautiful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and daughter, and will be missed very much.
