Dr. Catherine Ann Joseph, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and visionary advocate for student success, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at the age of 83.

Catherine dedicated over forty-five years to higher education as an administrator, counselor, and mentor. Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from Southern University, her Master’s from the University of Vermont, and her Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Colorado Boulder.

After relocating to San Diego, Catherine served for over two decades as Dean of Academic Advising at UC San Diego’s Warren College. A trailblazer on campus, she co-founded the UJIMA Network at UCSD, creating student scholarships and educational pipelines that continue her legacy long after her 2009 retirement.

Beyond her distinguished career, Catherine lived with vibrant energy, deep faith, and immense joy. She was a founding member and first president of the North County San Diego Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and a founding member of North San Diego County Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her greatest devotion was always to her family: her beloved husband, Henry; her children, Robin and her husband Byron, Kimberly, and Reggie; and her cherished grandsons, Ethan, Quentin, and Zane. She will forever be remembered for her strength, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering belief in the promise of others.
