Dr. Charles S.C. Lin, 81

Charles lost his fight with liver cancer on October 19th, 2018. He passed peacefully in his sleep and is now in a better place in Gods Kingdom.
Charles is survived by his wife Tan and his two children Albert and Debbie.
Charles was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan to a family of nine children. He attended the Taipei Institute of Technology to obtain his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering. In 1961, Charles came to the United States to attend graduate school at UC Berkeley in the department of
mathematics. In 1962, Charles married his wife of 56 years Tan Chou. Graduating in 1967 with a PhD in Mathematics from UC Berkeley, he then moved his family to Miami, Florida where he taught as an assistant professor at the University of Miami for two years. In 1969, Charles again moved his family to Princeton, New Jersey to do his post-doc at the Institute of Advanced Studies at Princeton. In 1971, after finishing his post-doc, Charles once again moved his family to Chicago, Illinois where he took an associate professor position at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the mathematics department. He finished his career there after 30 years as the Head of Graduate Studies in Mathematics.
