Obituary

Colonel David Winston Gingery, 85, passed away on September 5, 2023, in his home
surrounded by his loving wife and two daughters.

Colonel David Gingery was a dedicated and decorated United States Air Force officer, serving his country with heart, honor, and distinction for 26 years. He was born March 4, 1938, to Milo Moyne Willis and Louden Forey Gingery in Atchison, Kansas.

Throughout his life, he exemplified the core values of his family and the Air Force: loyalty, integrity, service before self, and excellence in all he did.

A man of unwavering principles, Colonel David Gingery's commitment to his country and his family were steadfast. He served his nation with valor and dedication, earning numerous commendations for his exceptional service and leadership. He was fiercely patriotic, loved his country and believed in ensuring the people's safety and freedoms above all else. This commitment stretched beyond this country to other countries around the world who were in need of assistance and direction to secure their freedoms. He went on to serve through the aerospace industry for another 16 years before retiring.

Beyond his military service, David Gingery was a devoted husband and father. He always put the needs and happiness of his family above all else. His love and guidance will forever resonate in the hearts of his daughters Amy and Lisa, and his wife Linda. He was a beloved grandfather to his three grandsons whom he adored, bringing joy and wisdom, as well as many lessons on fishing, golf, nature and life. Their fondest memories are of sitting together around the table listening to the amazing stories "Boompa" told of his incredible life adventures and gripping missions during his years of service.

He most enjoyed the weekend family explorations into the German countryside, the annual ski holidays with family and good friends during the nearly six-year tour of duty at Ramstein Air Base. His regularly scheduled fishing trips with dear friends were always something he looked forward to. Golfing was also a passion and a source of both joy and practice, and he loved spending time on the course. He was a man who loved nature, was an avid reader, and an unparalleled historophile. David never met his match in questions of Trivia.

Colonel David Gingery is survived by his amazing, loving wife, Linda, who was a Registered Nurse and always stood strong as Commander of the house during all of the calls to duty. Also survived by his two daughters, Amy and Lisa, and loyal dog Buster. His memory will be cherished by his family, dear friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A military Honor Guard service for Colonel David Winston Gingery to celebrate his life and honor his service to his country will be held at the Miramar National Cemetery on Monday September 18, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in his honor. Click here to donate
