Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of David Feather announce his passing on June 27, 2023. David was born in Orange, New Jersey and raised in the nearby town of Summit. He spoke often of fond memories of his childhood along with the many friendships he still maintained to this day.

David attended Alfred University in upstate New York where in 1968 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic engineering. David then travelled across the country with friends to California, before attending the University of California, Berkeley. During his time at UC Berkeley, David earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering in 1969, as well as a PhD in Engineering in 1972. David continued his education at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY where he earned a Masters of Business Administration degree in 1983.

In 1973, David was employed as the captain of an 80-foot Chinese Junk, the "Intrepid Dragon". He, alongside a three-man crew outfitted the boat in New York City, then navigated the Inland waterways and sailed the vessel to St. Maarten in the Caribbean. David and the crew left St. Maarten because they were unable to get work papers to continue on with their voyage to Rio de Janeiro.

David was then employed by Alcoa Aluminum in Pittsburgh, PA from 1974-1975, where he met hisfuture wife, Ruth. In 1975, David moved to Rochester, NY to take a job with Xerox Corporation. In August 1979, David married Ruth in Rochester. David continued working in Rochester for many years before he was transferred to California in early 1984, where he remained with Xerox through March 1989. He was later employed by Carlsbad, CA based Torrey Pines Research in product development for many years.

David lived life to the fullest. He was a dreamer, an optimist, and someone who always saw the silver lining behind every dark cloud. His  unique sense of humor, practical wisdom and charm were appreciated by many. He cherished his relationship with many lifelong friends. He was a man of great character. He was not defeated by his illness, but faced it with much courage and strength.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kendrick and Frances Feather, and sister Pamela Feather. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Feather, a son, William Feather and a sister, Susan Feather- Gannon.

A funeral Mass will be held the morning of August 9, 2023 at St Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 11451 Blue Cypress Dr., San Diego CA 92131. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to Alfred University in memory of David:
