Sterling, David Bruce, 79, of San Diego, California, formerly of Syosset and Farmingville, New York, passed away on June 29, 2025, following a brief illness.
Dave was born in Manhattan to Bruce and Barbara Sterling (Wayland) on November 1, 1945. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia of 55 years, sons Keith of Beverly Hills, Curt and husband José of San Diego, and sister Barbara (Pam) of Myrtle Beach. Dave grew up in Nassau County and attended private schooling in Connecticut and New York City. In his early years, he loved boating in Oyster Bay Harbor, an inlet of Long Island Sound. Dave served in the US Army from 1966-1969, including 18 months in Okinawa. He worked for 35 years as a gifted salesman in the field of custom millwork, cabinetry, and countertops and was a familiar and welcome presence at showrooms and distributors across Long Island.
Dave and his wife retired to San Diego in 2010 to be closer to their sons. He enjoyed time on his boat named 'Finally' in San Diego Bay, served as a volunteer for 10 years at Sharp Healthcare, and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was most proud of his boys and adored and cared for his wife with constant love and devotion.
Visitation Wednesday, July 9, 3-7 pm, Poway-Bernardo Mortuary, 13243 Poway Rd. Poway, CA. Funeral Mass Thursday, July 10 11:30 am, St. Michael's Catholic Church, 15546 Pomerado Rd. Poway, CA. Military interment to follow at Miramar National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
