Obituary

In Loving Memory of David Tillerson, Age 70, who passed away gently on May 6, 2025 after experiencing a sudden stroke.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Chloe, and father, William "Gene" Tillerson, Sr. His father was a naval aviator, and consequently, the family resided in many locations, including Jacksonville, Florida, Texas, San Diego, Monterey, New Orleans, and in North Springfield, Virgina, just outside of Washington D.C. The family then returned to California, and David lived in Rancho Bernardo since 1968.

While attending Poway High School (Class of 1972), he participated in wrestling and football (#44) and won First Place at the Science Fair. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. David continued his education at San Diego State University (BA Business Administration). Subsequently, he also attended Palomar College studying all types of technology, including computer programming, and data processing.

During his early and midlife years, he found friends along the way and explored many interests, including astronomy, photography, and outdoor adventures. David summited Half Dome in Yosemite - at least eight (8) times, hiked extensively at Mount Whitney, and enjoyed visiting many National Parks over the years. Dave loved to laugh, and be silly, and never hesitated to share his enthusiasm as a storyteller. He enjoyed buying and selling merchandise as a self- employed business owner and utilized his computer skills on many occasions to help others. He loved animals and cared for the family pets who shared his affection. In his later years, all that mountain climbing caught up with him and he endured numerous surgeries to address a variety of health issues, always looking ahead to better times.

David is survived by his brother, William "Gene" Tillerson, Jr. of Rancho Bernardo. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Tillerson and brother- in-law, Jim Metzler, of Culver City, CA, together with relatives and friends in California, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida.

A Memorial Service was held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, guided by Pastor Quincy Koll, and David was laid to rest at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.
