Delia Armida Nunez Fierro
August 1, 1935 – March 1, 2021
Our beautiful mama, Armida "Minda", 85, of San Diego passed away on March 1, 2021 surrounded by her children.
Minda is predeceased by her parents Juan and Agustina, her husband, Bob and 7 siblings, Alfredo, Eva, Manuel, Armando, Henry, Arnoldo and Adelina. She is survived by her two siblings, Willie and Martha, 7 children, Bobby (Carol), Suzy (Tom), Michelle (Mike), Debbie (Louie), Valerie (Dan), Chris (Tricia), and Traci (Jimmy), 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and her loving dog, Jack, who was sent to her when she needed him the most.
Our mom was born in Tucson, Arizona and lived there until the age of 7 when her mom and siblings boarded a train to Fresno, CA, to find work as farm laborers. At a very young age, our mom and her siblings worked in the orchards picking and packing figs to support the family. After graduating from Central High in Fresno, she enrolled in a nursing program at City College where she received her LVN. There, she also met our dad, the love of her life, at a pep rally. They married in August 1958, as she would say, "I refuse to be dropped by him like a hot potato".
Once married they moved to San Diego and started a family. She started her career as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest where she worked for 30 years. Later, she went to work at Aurora Behavioral Medicine in Carmel Mountain Ranch for 10 years, retiring in 2010.
She loved to travel but did not like flying. However, she did make the sacrifice more than once, and boarded planes to Europe and Israel, among other places. She was very close to her sister, Martha and sister-in-law, Rita, who along with our dad, were her travelling partners. She also made countless road trips visiting family in Fresno and Tucson.
She enjoyed parties, loved dancing, and getting dressed up for special occasions. At home she could often be found in the backyard relaxing, gardening, or in her bedroom watching tv, sipping her favorite wine, Merlot.
Our mom loved family, always putting us first. She had a close and special relationship with each of her children and grandchildren. She was funny without trying and often made us laugh. She loved getting together as a family and often hosted BBQs, especially when the Chargers or Padres were on. She was a big fan of Dan Fouts and Tony Gwynn.
She loved the Lord, her Catholic faith, and had great devotions to The Blessed Mother, St. Jude and St. Padre Pio. She prayed her rosary every night.
Our family was blessed to have an incredibly strong and loving woman in our life, the family matriarch, we will forever cherish the memories in our hearts. Until we meet again mama, we love you!
….And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
