Donald Harold Ribble
May 30, 1936 – July 20, 2021
Don's growing-up years were spent in Beaverton, OR. With Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and, cousins living nearby, he enjoyed a closely-knit family. There were many trips for fishing and hunting and to the beach for clam digging. There were family gardens to which all were shared around. One Uncle was also in charge of a small vineyard for a deep red wine shared as well.
In 1955 Don joined the Naval Reserve in Portland, OR, and proceeded to active duty. He began his career as a Yeoman and as such served with several major commands in Hawaii and Illinois. Midway through his career an opportunity to move to a new era in the U.S Navy as a Data Systems Technician. Computers were to be the future for the Navy. He remained in this field for twenty-three years until retirement as a Master Chief Data System Technician as a servant of his country. He was proud of this service.
During his high school years, he had taken up the game of golf. This was to remain his passion in life. He was always encouraging young people to take up this game and was supportive of those in the First Tee youth organization's effort. One of his happy moments was to play a round of golf with his grandson Cory Williams.
Don's home life was also important as he and his wife had two daughters, Sally and Connie. He was proud of their efforts particularly their graduation from SDSU with an emphasis in Information Technology. Sally now lives in Irvine, CA, and Connie in Apache Junction, AZ. Connie has the two grandchildren, Cory Williams and Ashley Ballard.
His wife Betty has traveled his career as that Navy wife who can pack up the geraniums, check the children out of one school and on to another whenever orders came to move on to a new assignment. This is what a Navy family does and they all did it together.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to First Tee in memory of Don.
