Doreen
Hoyt
February 20, 1926 – November 28, 2018
Doreen was the youngest daughter born of Swedish immigrants on
February 20th, 1926. This feisty girl they called Torchie spent her early
years in Rochester, WA, hearing her parents speak Swedish and her
older sister speak English with her friends after school. Although her
sister, Gunhild (Gunnie), was 10 years her senior, they were best
friends and "Torchie" often acted as chaperone to Gunnie and her
dates.
The Carlson family moved to Olympia and that's where Doreen's love
story began. She told her parents one evening that she was going to a
church function and instead went to the local USO dance. It was there
that Neal Hoyt, a tall, handsome soldier saw her across the room. It
was love at first sight! They were married within six months and were
blissfully happy for 60 years before Neal passed away 14 years ago.
To Neal, Doreen was the most beautiful woman on earth and the best
friend, cook, homemaker, mother and wife a man could ever dream of
having. They built their life, their home and their family with God at
the center and their three daughters felt completely blessed to be
raised on that foundation of love. It's with joy that Doreen joins her
beloved husband in paradise.
Doreen also had an affinity for butterflies, a symbol of life, hope and
God's gift of an eternal home with Him through the death of His
precious son, Jesus Christ. It is because of Doreen's faith that we
celebrate her life with the knowledge that we will see her again.
Doreen is survived by her girls… Linda and husband Mike Reeder,
Marilyn and husband Paul Zuill, Barbara Oeding and niece Deanna
Murray who was like a daughter to Doreen and Neal. Their many
grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandkids will miss
Grandma as well.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Doreen's honor to the youth program at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 16889 Espola Rd, Poway, CA 92064 .
