Edward Martin
Cruz, Jr.
June 2, 1950 – October 9, 2022
Edward Martin Cruz, Jr. passed away at the age of 72 at his San Diego home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
Born in Livermore, CA., he was the son of the late Edward Cruz Sr., Elayne (Cruz) Troutman and Joe Troutman. He is predeceased by brothers Gill and Gary, and his sister Michelle, and survived by his brother Greg.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marla, son Edward III and wife Sarah, daughter Erin, daughter Jessica and husband Dino, daughter Katrina and husband Jason, nephew Thomas and wife Julie, granddaughter Kylie, grandsons; Troy, Jacob, Tanner, Spencer, Edward IV, and Jameson, his sister-in-law Lynda and husband Buck, and all of his loving extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
As a fan of all sports, he enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf, but especially football. Ever since attending the first Raider game at 10 years old in 1960, Ed had been a lifelong dedicated Raider fan. He passed his love for the Raiders down to his children and grandchildren who will always carry the memories of sharing the Raiders with him from watching games both on TV and in the stadium together!
Ed shared his love of music, concerts, and traveling with his wife throughout their life together. He enjoyed watching repeats of shows like Perry Mason and Mash. Ed had such a true interest in the universe and what's beyond our planet, he hoped to get to space while still either alive or as scattered ashes!
For those who knew Ed well, know that if you received a nickname from him, he rarely used your actual name. This was one of the uniquely amazing ways he made sure you knew he cared for you.
Ed had a passion for coaching, mentoring, and helping others. He lived his passion through his many years as a business owner, sales leader, mentor, youth baseball coach, youth soccer coach, father figure to many, father and friend to his children, proud and loving grandfather, uncle, brother and husband.
Ed was a joyful man with a big heart who looked for the positive in every situation. Ed loved his family above all else. He was consistently vocal about his heartfelt love for his wife, Marla. He shared his pride for all of his children and grandchildren at every opportunity.
