Obituary

Elaine F. Gutzman

Born in Edgerton, Wisconsin November 22, 1922.  Died in Carlsbad, California April 23, 2020

Elaine was born to Anna & Olaf Olson. Elaine was the oldest of four girls, Ruthann Gilmore, twins Jean Radcliffe & June Wrolstad.  All family members predeceased her.

Elaine is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Farnsworth-Jutovsky, Son Robert J. Farnsworth, Son-in-law, Joel Jutovsky, and Grandson, David Farnsworth Jutovsky.

She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and loved sharing time with many relatives throughout Wisconsin. She especially loved the Olson annual family reunion held in Albion every June.

Elaine spent her early years living at the Prairie Edge farm with her family, went to grade school in a one room school house, and then Edgerton High School.  In 1941, Elaine attended Janesville Business College, lived & worked in Chicago and in 1943 went back to Wisconsin to work at Truax Field (Air Force).

Elaine married Robert C. Farnsworth in 1946. They lived in Madison, WI, San Gabriel CA, Chicago, IL, and Port Edwards, WI, before moving to La Jolla, CA in 1971. In 1979, Elaine graduated from City College as a Physical Therapy Assistant and worked at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.  Husband Bob Farnsworth passed away in 1980.

Elaine married Gerald Gutzman in 1990 at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.  They met at the Executive Golf Course nearby. She loved traveling about, as did Jerry, and they visited many places of mutual interest in the USA, Europe and New Zealand over the years. They lived in Solana Beach for 18 years beside the sixth green of the golf course before moving to La Costa Glen (Carlsbad, CA) in 2008. Elaine loved her many friends there, including Jim McInroe her long- time companion from Solana Beach. Elaine was a prolific artist and painter.  She took Art Classes, Beach and Lagoon Walks, sang Soprano with the Glenaires Chorus group who annually would perform concerts in the Spring and at the winter Holiday Season.  Elaine had a garden in shared space and would often leave one of her flowers at a friend's door. Elaine loved to play golf with Jerry & her family and continued to play well into her 90's.  She loved her many years of golf with the Saturday Golfers of Lomas Santa Fe Executive Golf Course.

In November of 2019 Mom moved to La Costa Glen Assisted Living. Elaine lived there for five months and passed away suddenly and peacefully on April 23 2020, literally an hour after she had spoken by phone with her daughter and son-in-law, pronouncing herself "Fine" at the time.  She enjoyed her days there and especially the terrific staff who provided service to her and other residents.

Elaine, with Jerry, enjoyed her long relationship with The Village Presbyterian Church of Rancho Santa Fe which she attended through the last 15 years.

As Grandson David said "Grandma inspired me every day to be a better human, a kinder/ gentler soul, to embrace my circumstances/not complain, to be more understanding and to enjoy life."
