Francis Edmund
Doyle
January 15, 1928 – January 17, 2026
Francis Edmund Doyle passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, in Poway, California, just two days after celebrating his 98th birthday. Born on January 15, 1928, in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York, Francis was the beloved son of Joseph and Agnes Doyle and the cherished brother of Agnes and Joseph.
Francis proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department, where he served with dedication and integrity for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Emerald Society, and the 10-13 Organization.
Above all else, Francis was a devoted family man. Family was truly everything to him, and he took immense joy in being actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, attending their activities and cheering them on in all they pursued. He was a role model for living life to the fullest and was known for his warm smile, sense of humor, gratitude, authenticity, and unwavering support of others. He loved the outdoors and treasured the many hours spent walking on the boardwalk at Jones Beach and later in Coronado.
Francis shared 56 loving years of marriage with his wife, Irene, whom he cared for faithfully, "in sickness and in health," until her passing in 2019. He is survived by his daughters, Anne-Marie (Brian) Pepi of San Diego and Lynn (Kelly) McConville of Poway, and by his four cherished grandchildren, Kathleen (Joseph), Megan, Erin, and Ryan.
A visitation will be held at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will take place at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10:15 a.m.
Francis will be remembered as a truly great man, a loving father, a devoted grandfather, and as someone who lived a life well lived. He will forever remain in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
