Frank John Lettang

Frank Lettang, 68, of Poway, California, passed away June 20th, 2026, in San Diego.

Born on May 16th, 1958, in Lynwood, California, Frank was the son of the late Frank and Inge Lettang, née Bauer. Frank grew up in Yorba Linda, California, where he frequently visited Disneyland, gathered citrus and avocadoes from their family trees, and enjoyed gleaning surplus equipment from a local aerospace firm with his father and two brothers. In 1973, he made Eagle Scout as part of a lifelong involvement with the Scouting organization.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from UC Berkely and a Master of Science degree from Stanford, both in electrical engineering. Frank was a 29-year employee of Hewlett-Packard, where he built an impressive depth and breadth of understanding in his projects. He was always generous in sharing his time and knowledge with his fellow employees. Because of his wisdom and positive attitude, he integrated quickly into any new product development group.

Frank and his wife, Janet, née Long, met at a Halloween party in 1984, where he was dressed in a light-up Ghostbusters costume, and she was dressed as a cowgirl. They were married for 40 years and had four children: two engineers, a teacher, and a doctor.

A lifelong learner and tinkerer, Frank had many eclectic hobbies, including ham radio, 3D printing, home repair, and DIY projects.

Frank is survived by his wife Janet, children Francesca, Katrina, Anna, and John, daughter-in-law Sydney, and brother Erik.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Frank is set for July 25th at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Poway, California.
