George Hoover King

George H King, 93, of Rancho Peñasquitos passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023. He was a devoted husband and father, with a multitude of treasured friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

George was a talented woodworker with a lifelong love of animals. He played volleyball competitively in the U.S. Navy,  and loved tennis and golf. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and rc planes. George especially loved being with family and friends at Lake Powell on the pontoon boat he built called the Cibola Queen. He was also a music lover who played the harmonica, guitar, and piano.

George was born on May 20,1930 in San Antonio TX to Alice (Brem) King and George H King Sr. He grew up in CA, graduating from Burbank High School in 1948, then enlisting in the US Navy. In 1955 George married his wife of 68 years, Sylvia (Payne) King of Sunland CA.

George was a career Navy man serving over 30 years as an air traffic controller in MD, HI, GA, TX, CA, Newfoundland, Guam and Japan. In 1978 he retired as a CWO4 at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego CA.

George is survived by his wife Sylvia King, and his children Jeffrey & Christina King of Cabo San Lucas Mexico, Daniel & Diane King of Simsbury CT, and David King of San Diego CA, along with his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
