Obituary

George W. Melious, 67, of San Diego passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Palomar Medical Center, Escondido, CA.  He was a dedicated husband to Rachele Melious. He is survived by two children, Mark Melious (Sol) and Melissa Tarajkowski (Jacob). He is the devoted grandfather to Brian, Aubree and Taylor Tarajkowski. He is preceded in death by his parents Agnes and John Melious and brothers William and John. He is survived by his brother Michael Melious and sisters Maureen Milletich, Diane Bagatta and Laura (Lo-Miss) Torres. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

George was born on November 11, 1953 and raised in New York City. He attended Saint Stanislaus Catholic Grammar School and Aviation High School in Queens, NY where he graduated in 1971, top of his class. Upon graduation, George began a 21 year Naval career as a Shipfitter and Damage Controlman repairing submarines around the world. He was based in Scotland, South Carolina, Connecticut and Florida.  He met his wife of 36 years, Rachele, while in Charleston, SC. He retired as a Naval Boot Camp Company Commander at the Naval Training Center in Orlando Florida in 1992 as a Damage Controlman Senior Chief.

In 1996, he received his MBA and moved his family to Egypt to work for Cubic Field Services. In 1998 he moved his family to California and began working for Qualcomm where he retired as a Senior Director of Satellite Communications in 2006.

George had a dynamic and unique personality. He was loved by many. He enjoyed golf, pool, darts, dancing, music, sports, and the stock channel. George belonged to Mason Lodges for over 35 years. His journey began with the Oxoboxo lodge in Connecticut. He was a past Master of the Silvergate-Three Stars lodge in San Diego where he was also a Hiram award recipient.  He was a member of the Scottish Rite and also of the Al-Bar Shrine.

He will be greatly missed by all and will remain in our hearts and thoughts forever.
