Obituary

George Mathias Zink passed away unexpectedly from a brief and sudden illness on August 24, 2018 in La Jolla, California.  He was born October 30 in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

George's  parents relocated to northeast Ohio where he spent his childhood and young adult years.  George served in the U.S. Army for two years and attended Cleveland Institute of Art where he studied art design.  He started as a design apprentice with Cleveland Crane Engineers while he attended Fenn College.  He also worked as a design engineer for Hoover & General Electric before landing a job at Allegretti & Company in 1976 when he moved his family to Simi Valley, CA to design weed eaters.  He received patents and design awards.  Towards the end of his working years he develped fitness equipment for Icarian Fitness Equipment and Hoist Fitness Equipment which was his "dream" job, as he loved body building and fitness.

George was a member of the Cleveland Browns Backers of Southern California and was a competitive trap shooter.  He was a dedicated body builder since the age of 14 which was his lifetime passion.  He loved working on cars and cherished his Porsche 928 which is one of his automotive favorites.

He is a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. George is survived by his wife Janet Zink of Escondido, CA; daughter and son-in-law Pamela E. & Lee Chidgey of Simi Valley, CA.; son and daughter-in-law George K. & Gisella Velasco-Zink of Oak Park, CA; sister Eileen Reese of Brunswick, OH and grandchildren Dalton Magee, Rhett Magee, Ever-Leigh Chidgey, Truman Chidgey and Steven Spellman.  His sense of humor and personality were cherished by all whom knew or met him.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Scripps Hospital for the excellent care they provided to George during his final days.
