Guy Jeffrey
Rich
February 2, 1956 – February 4, 2026
Guy Jeffrey Rich passed on February 4th, 2026 at the age of 70 enveloped by the love of his family and close friends.
Guy grew up in Union, Ohio and graduated from Northmont High School. A passionate athlete, he played tennis, baseball and football. Eager to further his education, he attended Oberlin College, where he earned a B.A. in Government and Economics in 1978.
A lifelong commitment to education and knowledge led him to pursue and receive a Master of Management degree from Northwestern University before beginning a career in banking in Chicago. While there, he met the love of his life, Katherine, and they were married in 1982.
Following the births of his children, Geoff in 1988 and Meg in 1990,
Guy became a dedicated stay-at-home father. He embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, devoting himself to supporting his family and nurturing passions that included cooking, coaching, and fostering curiosity, knowledge, and wisdom.
Guy's love of education continued, leading him to pursue a Master's in Architecture from the NewSchool of Architecture & Design. This resulted in him teaching architecture to middle and high school students at GATEWAYS Summer School in San Diego for nearly a decade. He took pride in helping students discover confidence and curiosity in the world around them. He followed his own example by becoming a student once more, diving head first into the world of pottery; a passion that brought him deep joy. His work can be found in the homes of many friends, family members, and the larger community.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents Hazel and Jimmie. He is survived by his wife, Kathy and his two children Geoff and Meg. A loving husband, committed father and caring educator, Guy will be remembered for his steadfast support of those around him, his witty humor, passion for music, travel, cooking, and cycling.
In lieu of a service or flowers, the family encourages honoring Guy by making something with your hands, cooking a meal to share, or teaching someone something new-just as he always did. If desired, donations in his name may be made to the PBS Foundation or a charity of your choice.
