Harry Shively Tice, Jr. of Poway, CA passed away after a long illness. He was 85.
Harry was born to Lois & Harry S. Tice, Sr., growing up in Ferndale, MD, where he was a volunteer firefighter as well as a 1955 graduate of Glen Burnie High School. After two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, he was given the opportunity to train as a butcher or as a plug board programmer (forerunner to computer programming) through an employment agency. Harry took training as a plug board programmer and never looked back.
In 1960, Harry moved to Los Angeles, California looking for his future. After several years in the industry, he opened his own computer programming consulting business, which he ran successfully until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, rooting for his favorite baseball and football teams, as well as the $1 blackjack tables on his annual vacation to Las Vegas.
Harry is survived by his 2 nd wife of nearly 50 years, Diane Tice; two children from his first marriage, Bob Tice (Elaine) and April Doidge (York); two children with Diane, Julie Tice (Alex Shangraw) and Jenie Tice; step-daughters Jeanne McGuff (David) and Joanne Fox (Russell); and by grandchildren Perry, Madison, Autumn, Andrew, Ethan, Kit, Nicholas, Lauren, and Katie, as well as sister-in-law Bodil Tice, and numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his older brothers, John and Robert, and his stepson, Jeffrey Luthe.
A burial service will be held at 1pm on Friday, May 19 th at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway, CA.
