Ian
Robertson
June 13, 1942 – November 10, 2018
Ian Robertson, age 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday November 10, 2018 at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California due to a severe stroke.
He was born June 13, 1942 in Greenock, Scotland to parents Hugh and Agnes (Watson) Robertson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (McBride), his children, Stuart and Linda and grandchildren Cami and Ian. He is also survived by extended family Candace (daughter in-law) and Frankie and Lexie (grandchildren in-law).
Ian immigrated with his wife Betty, to the United States in 1969 and settled in San Diego where he worked at NASSCO (National Steel and Shipbuilding Company) as a draftsman, engineer and eventually managed the engineering department and quality assurance programs for the shipyard. While at NASSCO, Ian played a role in designing many magnificent ships for the U.S. Navy and a variety of other commercial and hospital ships.
As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and was involved and supportive of their many interests and activities. One of his passions in life was soccer. Not only as a fan, but player, coach, referee and league organizer as well. During the late 1970's he helped create a new youth soccer league for Rancho Penasquitos that has flourished and evolved into a strong recreational and club program 40 years later. Another passion for Ian was golf. He didn't always have the best score, but always had a great time, as he shared this time with one of his best friends.
Ian was a kind, caring, hardworking and clever man and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A celebration of Ian's life will be held at 2:30 – 4:00 PM, Saturday, December 1 st at Templar's Hall, Old Poway Park, Midland Road, Poway, California. Friends and family are very welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ian's charity of choice, St. Jude Children's Hospital. http://giftfunds.stjude.org/ianrobertson
