Irene Avila entered into rest on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, she was 84 years of age.  Irene loved cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She always made sure you left her house with a full stomach.

Irene was born in Bagheria, Sicily on October 27, 1937 to Antonino DiSalvo and Concetta Zarcone. She had four sisters. At the age of 23, she traveled by boat to New York and then arrived in Los Angeles to live with her sister Agnes. She was introduced to her husband, Antonio by mutual friends and married in 1961.  They settled in San Diego and then to Poway.  Irene went to school to learn English and American History.  She became an American citizen in 1964. She was very proud to be an American.  Irene raised her kids at home and had several jobs at local restaurants.  She later went on to work at Scripps Memorial Hospital in the cafeteria where she retired in 1990.

She is survived by her loving family, children Barbara Lafleur (Mark), Frank Avila (Andalina), Concetta Avila, grandchildren Brian Johnson, Sandra Eades, Shawn Hartley, Elaina Hartley, Keri Lafleur, Geena Lafleur, Roman Avila, Andres Avila, and Kiana Lafleur, great grandchildren, Logan, Cayden, Natalya, Kaylee, and Makai.  She was preceded in death by her husband Antonio.

Immediately following the graveside service, there will be a reception/celebration of life at the Whitehead residence 14518 Indian Springs Road in Poway.  All are invited.
