Obituary

John William "Jack" Swain III passed away in San Diego, CA. surrounded by family on Friday, September 2, 2022. He was 79 years old. Jack was born March 28, 1943 in Fullerton, California, the son of John W. Swain, Jr and Bernice Lewellen Swain. He grew up in Anaheim, CA. He worked there as a youth in the neighboring orange groves, rode his horses, and raised livestock. It was there in the 5 th grade that he met the love of his life, Sharon Beckstrom, to whom he was married in 1963. He graduated from Valencia High School in Placentia, CA in 1961. In 1968 they moved to Poway, where they resided for nearly 55 years.

Jack loved being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family, both those closest to him and the extended family. He took interest in them and was always concerned about their well-being and success. He shared his love for horses with his grand-children, nieces, and nephews.

He began working in construction when he was 16 and worked as a framing and general contractor for nearly 64 years, until his death. He was known for his attention to detail and quality of work. Examples of this are seen in Poway with buildings on two corners at the intersection of Pomerado Road and Twin Peaks Road, and the office/retail center at the intersection of Poway Road and Garden Road. Jack loved to work and was always stressing the importance of hard work.

His love for horses continued all his life and he used his horses in service to the community as a member of the San Diego County Sheriff's Horseback Search and Rescue where he volunteered for over ten years. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a cowboy at heart.

Jack was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints attending the Sabre Springs Ward where he served faithfully in all his assignments. He served over ten years as a volunteer in the San Diego LDS temple.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon of Poway, CA; daughter Stayce Zamora of Eagle, CO; son Darren Swain (Jennifer Waite) of Oceanside, CA; 6 grandchildren - Sasha Jarman (Cole), Sierra Green (Kyle) , Taylor Swain, Sophie Bradford (Alex) , Piper Burrup (Logan), Owen Swain; and great-grandchildren Jack, Kit, Billee May, Josephine and Goldie. He is also survived by his siblings Karen Rose, CA; Deby Wallace (John), UT and Kevin Swain (Millie), CA and many nieces and nephews.
