Obituary

James (Jim) Nagle passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on June 16, 2021.

Jim was born on February 22, 1952 in Mishawaka, Indiana, the fourth child of seven to parents Ed and Vivian Nagle. His childhood years were spent with family in Michigan and New Jersey as the family moved based on Ed's career.

Jim graduated from Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, Michigan. He loved his high school years, where he was an accomplished athlete, participating in varsity football, hockey, and track and field. At age 18, he moved to California by leaving a note for his parents saying he was off to pursue the "California adventure." He attended Glendale Community College for two years and was offered a walk-on hockey position at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He graduated in 1977 from BGSU with a degree in Business Administration.

Jim held various positions in Sales over the years- office supplies, HVAC products, and his favorite- golf tournament director. He loved people and had the ability to connect with those from all walks of life- a trait which led to his success in Sales.

On May 26, 1984, Jim married the love of his life, Diane Hafer Nagle. The wedding reception was at his beloved Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham. They lived in Rancho Penasquitos before moving to Poway in December 1988. There they welcomed their beloved Katherine (Katie) Lynn in March 1992. A little over four years later, the arrival of twin boys, James Michael & John Richard, brought more joy and some chaos! This completed the family at the home on Boxwood Court that Jim loved dearly and renovated tirelessly. He was a loving father and husband. He taught his children to value family, self confidence, and laughter - a sense of humor was essential to life.

Jim's talents were varied: he was a wonderful cook who loved to make homemade soups and put on a "spread" for family and friends. His talented hands were always involved in some project around his Poway home. Friends and family can attest that he was not known for the speed in completion of these projects, but the quality and beauty when completed always impressed. Jim also wielded a quick wit- always one with a joke or funny story, complete with appropriate accent to generate even more laughs.

Golf was his passion- he played at first light every Saturday morning for over 40 years with the same group of friends. He will be dearly missed on and off the course by the many "golf guys" from former Stoneridge Country Club, and now the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. He loved them all and the countless golf rounds, bets, and laughs shared!

He will be missed most of all by his family. The annual Nagle Christmas "Chowder Feast" was one of his favorite events of the year. The Boxwood home would host the growing Nagle family with laughter and good cheer!

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane, and their three children, Katherine 'Katie,' James 'Jimmy' and John Nagle, and dog, Lacey, and by his brothers and sisters: Jane Hargrove, Jill Ganey, Joe and Jeff Nagle, and numerous nieces and nephews all over the country who loved their "Uncle Jimmy."  He was predeceased by his parents - Ed & Vivian Nagle, brothers John & Jerry Nagle, and sister-in-law, Janet Nagle.

Jim's funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church at 10am on July 9th, 2021 followed by a celebration of his life at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made in Jim's name to the First Tee of San Diego, a charity that serves youth through education, support, and golf exposure- a cause which was close to his heart.
