Obituary

Janet Lee, age 92 of Poway, CA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2026.  She was born in 1933 in North Dakota, a devoted daughter of Reka and Bud, and sister to Mary Lou and Angie.

At the age of 10 the family moved to Burbank, CA. She was an honor student at Bellarmine Jefferson High School and won a prestigious essay contest in her senior year.  She had life-long friends from school that she would visit over the years.  She went on to graduate from St. Vincent's College as a Registered Nurse. Her many friends from college would get together annually for reunions over most of her lifetime which were of immense joy to her.

She flew solo to Japan in 1956 to marry the love of her life, Mick who was serving in the Navy.  They had their son Kit in Japan before settling in Imperial Beach in 1958. In 1974 the family built their home in Poway.  While raising her six children in San Diego, she worked on and off as a Registered Nurse at Bay General, San Diego Children's Hospital and Pomerado Hospital.

A devoted Catholic, she was active in her local churches, St. Charles in Imperial Beach and then St. Gabriel's in Poway.  She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing.  She was active in the St. Gabriel's choir for many years.  She was also the St. Gabriel's wedding coordinator for a time.

Janet was a wonderful cook as well as a talented artist; painting with watercolors, sewing and quilting.

She loved her San Diego Padres baseball club and going to the games since the Padres franchise started in San Diego.  Later in life she watched the games at home but kept score during the games.  Her 90th birthday party was Padre-themed and the highlight was watching the Padres clobber the Dodgers.

She enjoyed visiting Valley View Casino with daughters Terry and Diana for an afternoon of gambling and the free gift or food. She also enjoyed the racetrack with family and friends for thoroughbred racing. Her 75th Birthday party was held in the Clubhouse at Del Mar with friends and family.

Janet was a fierce competitor at cards, dominoes and board games which she played frequently with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a loving mother to her six children and their spouses, Kit, Dee, Jeanine, Terry, Diana, Greg, Shari, Jack, Carol and Tom; her eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jenna, Gary, Matthew, Monica, Emily, Jacob, Darian, Mariah, Amanda, Jordan, Megan and Dylan in addition to her five great-grandchildren, Khi, Bella, Emma, Talon and Odessa.

She leaves behind her niece and nephews, Diane, Mark and Craig and their children and niece Nikki who preceded her in death, all of whom she adored.

Funeral services for friends and family will be held Wednesday February 4th at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway, California.  A Rosary will be held at 10:30 am followed by funeral mass at 11:00 am. A reception lunch will follow at the church.  She will be laid to rest with her dearest love Mick at Dearborn cemetery.
