Obituary

Jean Audrey Colbaugh, 91, of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2018 surrounded by her family.  Born on August 9, 1927 in Carbondale, PA to William Finney and Ethel (Pritchard) Finney, she was a first generation American born to Welsh Immigrants.  Jean graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, in Carbondale, PA in 1945 and continued her education at International Correspondence School in Scranton, PA.  She married Orval Colbaugh June 11, 1949 in Scranton, PA.   They were married for 63 years at his death in 2012.  A proud American, Jean supported her country and her husband's military career in the Air Force being stationed at Carlisle Barracks, PA, NATO Base Iwakuni, Japan, Mitchel Field, Long Island, NY,  RAF Bentwaters/RAF Woodbridge (USAFE) and RAF Wethersfield in England and finally settled at Andrews Air Force Base, MD upon her husband's retirement.   After her husband's death she lived for a short time  with her granddaughter Dawn and family in Fredericksburg , VA before moving  to San Diego to live with her daughter, Patti and husband.   At her death, Jean was living in San Diego  with her daughter, Lynda  , who temporarily moved from Tennessee  to become her caregiver.
Jean spent the majority of her life as a homemaker raising two daughters and a granddaughter, but also worked for a short time at Vanderee Real Estate in Clinton, MD and the USPS in Upper Marlboro, MD .  Besides her family, Jean loved two things:  flowers and animals.  She spent countless hours in her yard cultivating her flower garden as well as creating pictures and crafts with flowers.  She was a regular contributor to her local SPCA as well as rescuing several animals herself.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, as well as her beloved brother Gerald "Gray" Finney and sister Elizabeth "Betty" Gillespie.   She is survived by her two children, Lynda Colbaugh Raitala of Tennessee, Patti Colbaugh Rodis (Glenn) of San Diego, CA,  her three grandchildren, Dawn Lester Colyer (Stephen), Staci Rodis McIlwain, and Michelle Rodis Milgazo (Steve) as well as six great grandchildren, three nieces, one nephew and great-nieces and nephews.  Services and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a time to be announced.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your local SPCA or animal shelter.
