Lieutenant Commander John Patrick (Pat) Anamosa, USN (1946-2026)

John Patrick Anamosa, 79, of San Diego passed away on September 12 th of 2026. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC the son of Harold D. Anamosa and Mary Ann Hughes of Texas. The family moved to the Washington, DC area when he was one, and he grew up in Arlington, Virginia and Damascus, Maryland, graduating from Damascus High School in 1964.

Pat served five years in the Navy as an Electrician’s Mate, serving in the Pacific Fleet, combat duty as a landing craft crewman in I-Corps Viet Nam during the Tet Offensive of 1968, and shore duty at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. He then enrolled in the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. While there he met Nga, his beloved wife of 51 years. After graduating from UNM in 1974 he was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. He served fifteen more years in five ships homeported in San Diego in Engineering and Operations billets, including Chief Engineer in USS BROOKE and Assistant Engineer and Chief Engineer in USS BELLEAU WOOD, and a NATO tour in Halifax, Nova Scotia with the Canadian Forces. After retiring in 1990 Pat was licensed a Marine Engineer by the Coast Guard as a ship’s First Assistant Engineer, Steam. He continued to support the Fleet and the Military Sealift Command as a contractor for thirty years in various marine engineering and logistics assignments with American Management Systems and CACI, and two years Federal Service as a GS-13 at the Military Sealift Command office at Point Loma.

After Retiring from full-time work in 2016, Pat and Nga liked to travel, taking several Cruises, tours to Europe, and road trips in the States. He enjoyed hiking, shooting, Premier League Soccer, and was an avid reader of history, biographies, and suspense novels. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 7907 in Poway CA. He is survived by his wife Nga, daughter Mei Linh, son Rick, and many siblings, nieces and nephews. Interment will be at the Miramar National Cemetery on January 15 th 2027 at 2:30 PM.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Poway VFW #7907, 12342 Old Pomerado Road - Poway, CA 92064, immediately following the cemetery service.
