April 12, 1938 – May 18, 2021
On May 18, 2021 John R. McCormack, Sr. passed from this world into the loving arms of God and his wife of 62 years, Josephine C. McCormack.
John was born April 12, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts. He grew up with his brother, Fred, in the suburb of Dorchester. It was there that he met Josephine "Jo", the love of his life.
John and Jo were married on May 30, 1958. They stayed in the Boston area while John attended and graduated from Northeastern University. Eventually they moved to New Hampshire where they enjoyed raising their four children.
John and Jo traveled the world with trips to Japan, Malaysia, China, Germany and most of Europe. In their retirement they traveled the US in their motorhome with their African Grey Parrot named Simon.
John and Jo were very active in the Catholic Church and John belonged to the Knights of Columbus organization since the 1970's. He remained an active member when moving to Rancho Bernardo fourty years ago. In addition to his service to the church, John was a veteran of the US Navel Reserves serving from 1955 - 1963.
John will be remembered for his quick wit, acute intelligence and a mischievous smile. Throughout his career, he was always at the precipice of technology working for Honeywell and as a contractor for the US Navy. He was one of the original software engineers, installing and programming systems at Dartmouth College, as well as in Los Angeles, Phoenix and aboard aircraft carriers around the globe. He always enjoyed and thrived on the challenges new technology brought to his career.
John is survived by his children: John R. McCormack, Jr and his wife, Patty of Austin, TX; Kevin M. McCormack and his wife, Audrey of Lebanon, NH; Brian C. McCormack and his wife, Norsham of Centreville, VA; Donna M. Alderette and her husband, Ron of Holly Hill, FL. John also leaves behind six grandchildren: Matthew, Mitchell, Mason, Ian, Corey and Mya – all whom he adored and who adored him.
John will be laid to rest alongside his wife on June 8, 2021 at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway, California.
John lived life well and had a life well lived.
