John David Padilla passed away at his home in Poway, CA surrounded by his loving family on July 19, 2023. He was 87 years old. John was born in Los Angeles, CA on April 8, 1936 to John S. & Carmen (Rea) Padilla.

After completing some college courses, John joined the United States Army. He served from 1956 until 1962, being discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He spent the majority of his life working as an auto mechanic, starting when he was 12 years old.

John enjoyed many water activities including swimming, boating and waterskiing. He was extremely dedicated to his wife Ellie and lived his life to help create her happiness. They enjoyed dancing together, spending time with family and have many joyful memories.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ellie Padilla of Poway, CA; sons John Padilla III (wife Jennifer) of Menifee, CA and Edward Padilla of La Jolla, CA; daughter Natalie Lanning (husband Sam) of Rancho Bernardo, CA; grandsons John IV & Josh Padilla; and sisters Olivia, Adeline & Carmen.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8pm, Monday, August 7, 2023 at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am, Tuesday, August 8th at St. Michael Catholic Church in Poway. A committal service with military honors will follow at 1:15pm at Miramar National Cemetery.
