John Richard Rizzuti passed away peacefully at his home in Lakeside, CA on May 7, 2026. He was 65 years old. Born on September 6, 1960 in New Haven, CT, John was the second of three sons born to Robert and Barbara Rizzuti. Growing up, he lived in New Haven, CT, Key West, FL, Albany, GA and Poway, CA. He always looked back fondly at the places he lived and the friends he made along the way in each location. At an early age, John showed a great aptitude for all things mechanical. Upon his graduation from Poway High School in 1978, he achieved great success as an auto mechanic and, in his later years, a recreational vehicle mechanic. John spent almost a decade living in Kaua’i and sincerely loved his time on the islands. To those who knew John well he was a loyal friend, who had an incredibly big heart and a generosity of spirit. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to break out singing whenever the mood would strike him. John cherished his immediate and extended family and had great love and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and nephew, as well as the Kauhi Family. He loved spending time with those closest to him more than anything else.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dawn (Tita), two daughters, Jana and Jennifer Rizzuti, both 35 years old and both of Kaua’i, HI, and four grandchildren: Makoa (16), Malakai (14), Hayden (14), and Meilani (9). He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Rizzuti, his wife Julie Rizzuti and their son, Gavin Rizzuti (13), as well as a number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Robert Rizzuti, Jr.

A celebration of life will be held in John’s honor on June 20, 2026 at Old Poway Park, 14131 Midland Rd, Poway, CA 92064. More details will follow as they become available.
