John Talbot
Baker
June 30, 1938 – February 13, 2019
John Talbot Baker was born June 30, 1938 in Portland, Oregon to Vernon W. Baker and Ada (Talbot) Baker. He grew up in Vancouver, Washington and graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1956.
He attended Washington State College in Pullman, WA and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Portland State in 1965. John worked in the airline industry for 42 years. Starting out as a ticket agent for Western Airlines and in seven years, advanced to administration.
He married his high school sweetheart, June Haukaas in 1959. When duty called, he joined the Army National Guard and remained in the reserves for six years after boot camp.
John was an active member of Toastmasters International for many years and reached the position of Lieutenant Governor in the organization. Also, he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus for over 23 years. He helped raise funds for many worthy causes.
He had a soft spot in his heart for the homeless, assisting them with food and clothing. Bicycling, fishing, golf, doing his own car maintenance and repairs, traveling and woodworking were some of his favorite things to do.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, June; two daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa & Kenneth Green and Lisa & Robert Baker; three grandchildren; Kyle, Derek & Tyler Green; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn & Dennis O'Callaghan of Winthrop, WA.
Services will be held Monday, March 4, 2019 at 10:30am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 13734 Twin Peaks Rd., Poway, CA.
John was a good and kind man. He leave us with many cherished memories. Donations in memory of John may be made to Father Joe's Villages. (619)446-2100. https://my.neighbor.org/
