Joyce Saner, aged 101, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 8, 1922, in Collie, Western Australia, Joyce's life was marked by her resilience, warmth, and the deep bonds she formed with those around her.
Joyce's early life in Australia was filled with the beauty and spirit of her homeland which provided innumerable stories of her memories. Her life took a blessed turn when she met Donald Saner, a US Navy submarine sailor during World War II. Their meeting blossomed into a love that led to a lifetime together. Joyce and Donald were a testament to love and devotion, supporting each other through every challenge and joy life presented.
Don continued his career with the Navy, and they built a life filled with love and laughter, welcoming two children, Donna, and Gary. Joyce was not only a beloved wife and mother but also a cherished grandmother to Eric, Claire, Christopher, and Kaeli, and a loving great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren.
Joyce's life was a tapestry of the many roles she cherished - a caring wife, a supportive mother, a doting grandmother, and a friend to all. Her warmth and kindness touched many lives. She will be remembered for her strength, her love for her family, and her ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Joyce's passing is a profound loss to her family and all who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Joyce, we carry forward the lessons of love, resilience, and joy she imparted. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Joyce's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have been part of her journey and who have shared in their loss.
Joyce will be joining her husband in his internment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at a future date.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on that date, where friends and family are welcome to share memories and honor her remarkable journey.
