Jules Goldberg
(June 23, 1942 – March 22, 2023)
Jules Goldberg: Engineer, Musician, Loving Friend, Loving Brother, and Survivor

Jules passed on March 22, 2023 peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, friends and family at the age of 80.

Jules' health was declining for several months while residing at a Retirement Community in El Cajon. He was suffering from end-stage renal failure and had been undergoing dialysis for more than a decade.

Previous to living near San Diego, he lived in Northern California since the mid 1970s. When his beloved Jan Schafir died in March 2022, Jules moved to the San Diego area to be closer to his brother Jack and his sister Joan.  The fourth sibling, Paul, lives in Palo Alto.  He is the eldest of the four children and had no children of his own. His wife Ava passed in 1976 and although he had several loves since her death, he never remarried.

Jules loved music, playing the saxophone since he was a teen. Those that were close to him enjoyed his jazz stylings and he played at many clubs, parties and private gatherings during his lifetime. He left behind 5 saxophones, two keyboards, a flute and a Yamaha WX5 along with many old  vinyl jazz recordings, CDs and more than 10,000 (!) jazz charts which he and his fellow musicians collected, studied and played.

Jules studied electrical engineering at Columbia University in New York and the University of Minnesota and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He was an accomplished designer with a variety of interests including crystal oscillators, phase-locked loops and MOS integrated circuit design.

For those with an interest in jazz music, Jules especially enjoyed Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Timmons, Shirley Scott, Stanley Turrentine, and OH SO MANY OTHERS.

Donations in Jules' honor should be given to the American Diabetes Association.
