K
Sorenson
July 24, 1948 – September 20, 2025
K Sorenson, 77, passed away on September 20, 2025.
K was born in Sweetwater, Texas, to Phil and Virginia McCanlies on July 24, 1948. Fiercely proud of her Texas roots, she carried that pride throughout her life. Before starting high school, K and her family moved to El Segundo, California. After graduating high school, she began a career in electronics and was soon offered an opportunity to open a new branch for an electronics company in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It was in New Mexico that K married the love of her life, Bill Sorenson, in the Sandia Mountains. Their journey together took them to the Bay Area and later to Issaquah, Washington, before another promotion brought them back to Albuquerque. In 1985, they settled in San Diego County, where K discovered her true calling as a Realtor. Her passion for real estate, her clients, and her colleagues was unmatched. She thrived in the camaraderie of her peers, enjoyed the Realtor bowling league, and loved participating in local networking events. She was also a past president of the Poway Real Estate Professionals and served on its board for several years, where her leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on the community she lived in and cared for.
K valued her friendships deeply. She spent time with the Green Valley Garden Club and the Soroptimist group, always seeking ways to connect with and support her community. She adored traveling, taking cruises, and embarking on countless adventures with her girlfriends. She also cherished her bunco groups, attending plays and concerts, and lunches with friends, moments that brought her great joy and laughter.
K truly never met a stranger. She loved striking up conversations with anyone and everyone, and her warmth and openness created lasting connections wherever she went.
Above all, K's life was guided by her strong Christian faith. She was a woman of deep conviction, living each day with gratitude and love for others. Her faith was her foundation, and it shaped the way she cared for her family, friends, and community.
K is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William (Bill) Sorenson of San Diego, California; daughters Jamie (Marcos) Melim of Poway, California, and Jenifer Jeide of Westfield, Indiana; sons Joshua Sorenson of San Diego, California, and Jacob (Angela) Sorenson of San Diego, California; sisters Lee Ann (Dave) Young of Ridgefield, Washington, and Dona McCanlies of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren Spenser, Shafer, Shane, Sidney, Skyler, Seth, Nickolas, and Jack; and six great-grandchildren Kaden, Colton, Kaylie, Callan, Kenna, and Cameron.
A memorial service will be held at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, 17010 Pomerado Rd, San Diego, CA 92128, on October 6 at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in a private service at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.
K's warmth, loyalty, humor, adventurous spirit, steadfast faith, and gift for connecting with others will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved her.
