Kathryn Alma
Scott
September 20, 1939 – November 14, 2023
Kathryn Alma (Crow) Scott, 84, passed away peacefully at home with her family in Poway, California on November 14, 2023, following an extended illness. She was a devoted daughter, sister (Audrey Matthews and Richard Crow), aunt, wife, mother, mother-in-law (Chris, Denise, Mari, Katie, and Nena), grandmother, great-grandmother (Smith and Austin Sillano), and friend. Kathryn and her loving husband of 64 years, retired Navy Officer Phillip Carl Scott, toured the country raising their five children (Renee, Phil, Bill, Paul, and Jim).
Born in Canton, Ohio to J. Harvey and Edith Crow, she spent most of her youth in St. Paris, Ohio. There she married Phil, her classmate since first grade at Johnson-St. Paris School, and they began their life adventure together.
Kathryn rarely rested. She made time for her children and 11 grandchildren (Marissa, Alexandra, Demetra, Kyle, Kalea, Ben, Tom, Molly, Ian, Nathan and Jordan), She made blankies & Christmas cookies, Barbie clothes, stuffed animals, personalized birthday cakes, and countless trips to Disneyland. She could be found in the backyard growing vegetables, tending her roses, and marveling at the hummingbirds. She made sure her children did their homework, did their chores, and wrote thank you notes. When she did rest, the back patio provided a
respite, as it has always been considered the best room in the house.
Kathryn modeled kindness, hard work, service, high standards, and a sense of adventure, all tinged with a healthy dose of good humor. She was fiercely independent and always brave.
Parishioners at St. Michael's Catholic Church for 50 years, Kathryn and her husband actively supported and guided their children in school, scouting, and sports. They traveled extensively with their children and each other enjoying camping, cruises, and concerts.
Kathryn was also devoted to her clients at the San Diego Center for the Blind, Vista Office. She served as the Administrative Assistant and taught cooking classes for more than 20 years until her retirement in 2020. Prior to that, she worked for the Poway News Chieftain.
She was an avid Padres fan, even after her favorite player, Tony Gwynn, retired. Thanksgiving won't be the same without Kathryn and her delicious pumpkin, pecan, and apple pies. Her family and friends loved her dearly and thank her for her never-ending love. She is already terribly missed.
A visitation will be held at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary on Thursday, November 30, 5 - 7 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to share their remembrances beginning at 5:30 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled at St. Michael's Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 1 followed by the burial at Miramar National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider donating to the San Diego Center for the Blind. https://www.sdcb.org/donate-form-to-help-visually-impaired
