Obituary

Laurie Ann (Rousse) Madore was born on April 25, 1964 in Chula Vista, CA. After growing up in the San Diego area, Laurie attended community college at various San Diego area colleges. In fact, that is when she met her husband Dan. She happened to be sitting in front of him in a pre-calculus class both of them were taking at the time. Dan and Laurie were married at Balboa Park on August 6, 1989 after three years of engagement filled with teddy bear gifts traded between them, long-distance calls, and love letters that fill a large chest. Laurie diligently and meticulously studied pharmacy at the University of Connecticut. Her hard work was showcased in her success on the Connecticut, Arizona, and California pharmacy licensing exams. Her intellect was outmatched only by her love for the people she served in this role she cherished as a pharmacist for 17 years - especially the many Walgreens customers who became dear friends and extended members of her family.

Laurie enjoyed traveling, spending much of her time in recent years on road trips across the country or day trips to ski or sled in Flagstaff, AZ. Her child-like enthusiasm and fun-loving personality were always on display, especially when she encouraged her family to visit water parks nearly every day in the summer. Similarly, she loved swimming, hiking and biking, especially around sunset with Dan or the more than occasional midnight ride with whichever daughter was available. Laurie loved healthy foods, even eating asparagus for breakfast, but she also had the occasional hankering for taquitos or carne asada burritos. Her claim to fame was eating dessert before the main meal. As the ultimate cheerleader for her daughters, Laurie went out of her way to support them in their endeavors, even driving to San Diego to watch Rachel compete in mock trials or flying to San Antonio, TX to support Kayla during the National Bible Bee Competition. Her passion for teaching her daughters grew into a love of homeschooling that spanned nearly 20 years. She took every opportunity to encourage other families, especially fellow mothers, that they too could homeschool their own children.

Laurie's unwavering belief in people and care for strangers was coupled with her abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Her desire to share the love, peace, and light of Jesus with all people she encountered was her main priority in life. For example, she attended a Sprouts employee's wedding because she spent hours talking with him about Jesus on her frequent grocery runs. Additionally, she always went out of her way to speak with people experiencing homelessness and kept in touch with many over the years to make sure they were doing well. Laurie was her genuine self in every setting and inspired others to care for those who may otherwise be overlooked. Throughout all of Laurie's years as a Christian she always valued participation in her local church. For the past 10 years, she was a member of Desert Breeze Community Church in Phoenix, AZ. She brought her desire to reach out to all people, especially new faces, when in attendance at her home church as well as other church events throughout the Phoenix area.

Laurie peacefully passed away at home in Peoria, AZ surrounded by her family on January 25, 2022 after a 7-month battle with stage 4 stomach cancer. During her month-long time in hospice care, she said she felt like every day was her birthday because so many friends came to visit her and surround her with the joy she so much liked to bring to others. She recounted on many occasions during her fight with cancer that her suffering would be well spent if only one person came to know the Lord through her example of faith. We know she has heard these words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!"

Laurie is survived by her husband of 32 years, Dan Madore; two daughters, Rachel Madore Romaniuk (husband Marcus) and Kayla Madore; two sisters: Debbie (Rousse) Villasenor and Sandy (Rousse) Schuler; stepmother Karen Rousse; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marlene (Newman) Rousse, and father Brian Rousse.

Although cancer overtook her body in the end, nothing ever came close to overtaking her spirit and infectious smile. Psalm 121:1-2: "I lift up my eyes to the mountains--where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." Her smile will be etched in our hearts and minds forever.
