Leland "Lee" Joseph Morrison
August 18, 1956 – October 4, 2025
Leland "Lee" Joseph Morrison, 69, of Poway, California, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born on August 18, 1956, in Rochester, New York, Lee was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, humor, faith, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him.
Lee graduated from Churchville-Chili High School in Churchville, New York, in June 1974. Soon after graduation, he proudly entered the United States Marine Corps, training at Parris Island, South Carolina, where he served as a tenor saxophonist in the Marine Corps Band and rose to the rank of Corporal. Following his Marine Corps service, Lee later joined the U.S. Army before returning to civilian life.
After his military service, Lee spent several years as a cross-country truck driver before pursuing his passion for business and numbers. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting, and later his Master's Degree in Business Administration and Marketing, graduating cum laude in 2012. Throughout the 1980s and beyond, Lee built a successful career in accounting, working in a variety of roles until his retirement in 2021.
In February 2023, Lee was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) after experiencing symptoms beginning in the summer of 2019. His courage, grace, and positive outlook in the face of a terminal illness were an inspiration to all who knew him. He and his beloved wife, Sandy, promised each other to live life to the fullest for as long as possible—and they did just that. A man of deep faith, Lee was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway, where he served in many ministries. Prior to his diagnosis, he was in discernment for ordination into the Diaconate. Lee loved God, his wife Sandy, his family, music, hockey, animals, and nature. He and Sandy were active in the Greyhound community in the San Diego area and shared their home with their beloved greyhounds, Dobby and River Song.
Lee is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Sandy) Morrison; his daughter, Anastasia Morrison; his grandson, Donovan Robison; his stepdaughter, Erin Sealy (husband Jayson Mendoza); and his stepson, Frank Sealy (wife Angela). He also leaves behind his step-grandsons, Nicolas and Ryder Sealy; his father, Leon Morrison; his sisters, Barbara Glydewell (husband Gary) and Tracey Ruff; his mother-in-law, Arlene Neuert; and his beloved greyhounds, Dobby and River Song. He was predeceased by his mother, Edna Straight Weimer, in 2004, and his sister, Michelle ("Shelley") Cowgill, in 2010.
Lee will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his deep faith, and his love of family and life. His strength, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 16275 Pomerado Road, Poway, CA 92064, at 1:00 p.m. The Scottish service will be preceded by a presentation of Military Honors. Scottish attire is encouraged but not required. A reception will immediately follow the service on the church patio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association , ALS San Diego , The Gleason Foundation , or I AM ALS .
