Obituary

In loving memory of Linda Gwen McCormack, who graced this world with her presence on May 11, 1940, in the heart of New York City. Linda, the eldest of three siblings, was born to John and Marjorie Lackner, embarking on a journey that would be marked by her unwavering devotion to faith, family, and service.

From her early years, Linda displayed a profound interest in her Catholic faith, a passion that would shape her life's path. Following her high school graduation, Linda made the courageous decision to join the Sisters of Mercy in 1958, where she embraced the calling to minister to the sick, serve the economically disadvantaged, and care for orphaned children. Taking on the name Sister Mary del Rey, Linda poured her heart into her work, teaching and nurturing children who faced immense challenges.

As the years unfolded, Linda's dedication led her down unexpected paths. She transitioned from teaching to managing the convent's kitchen, all while pursuing higher education to better serve those in need. With determination and grace, Linda graduated with honors from Pratt Institute, earning a Bachelor of Science in Food Science Management. Her role expanded to encompass not only feeding the children but also overseeing the kitchen operations with efficiency and care.

Yet Linda's thirst for knowledge and service knew no bounds. She returned to school to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse, a decision that would mark a new chapter in her life. Her days began before dawn with prayers and ended long after sunset, as she tirelessly cared for others, her compassion shining through in every action.

In 1982, Linda's journey took a new turn as she exchanged her habit for marriage vows, uniting her life with Kevin McCormack. Pope John Paul II bestowed his Apostolic Blessing upon their union, recognizing the depth of their commitment to each other and their shared faith. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the joy of parenthood.

Sean, their beloved son, brought immeasurable happiness into Linda and Kevin's lives. Linda embraced motherhood with the same dedication and love that had characterized her years in the convent, nurturing Sean with tenderness and instilling in him the values of faith, kindness, and generosity.

As Kevin's military service took them to San Diego, Linda continued to shine, balancing the roles of a devoted wife, mother, and dedicated nurse. Her years at Paradise Valley Hospital were marked by excellence, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Linda's tireless dedication earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Peer Nurse Award, a testament to her unwavering commitment to patient care.

In retirement, Linda's spirit continued to shine brightly. She found solace in her garden, nurturing vibrant blooms and bountiful harvests with the same love and care she had lavished upon her family and patients. Her voice joined in harmony with the choir, her songs rising in praise and prayer to the heavens above.

Linda's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, her kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith serving as a beacon of light in a world often darkened by adversity. Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in the knowledge that she is at peace, her soul now dancing among the angels and saints, forever embraced in the loving arms of her Creator.

As we bid farewell to Linda, we hold onto cherished memories, knowing that her love will continue to guide and inspire us in the days ahead. Rest in peace, dear Linda, knowing that your legacy of love will endure for eternity.
