Ian Philip Santos, Major, US Marines, retired August 2013, tragically passed away on June 26, 2021, in San Diego, California as a result of a traffic accident, at the age of 51. He is survived by his four children, three sisters. He was born to Philip C. Santos and Mira Sarda Santos, both from the Philippines, in Flushing, New York.
A career Marine Corps officer, with distinguished service around the country and abroad, after his retirement, Ian served as a tremendous inspiration to a great many high school students through the JROTC instruction program. He went above and beyond the call of duty for his cadets, completely devoted to teaching not only strong leadership skills, but also life skills.
A devoted father, at home, Ian spent his free time with his kids and much adored dogs, always ready for an outing or an adventure, because he too was a kid at heart. With a true zest for life, he knew how to live in the moment, was an amazing cook, an avid (Dallas Cowboys) football fan, and made us laugh all the time with his infectious smile and incredible, fast wit. He was a fabulous brother, uncle, relative, and friend and will forever and always be loved and missed.
