Manuel Sandoval

Also known as Manny, Dad, and famously known as "Papa", was born July 8, 1933 in La Muralla Zacatecas, Mexico to his parents Juan E. Sandoval and Michaela Vallejo-Sandoval. He was the first of twelve children. During his childhood, he worked on the farm and in the fields tending the animals and crops doing odd jobs to help earn money for the family.
At the age of 21, he joined the United States Air Force on October 5, 1954. He was privileged to travel many places such as Great Britain, Iceland, Japan, Thailand, and various states in the US. All which left a lasting impression and many stories he would share. He valued education and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Services from Southern Illinois University, and earned a Licensed Vocational Nursing degree, and was an Emergency Medical Technician in Emergency Room at March Air Force Base. Manuel was stationed at six different Air Force Bases and three overseas remote locations. He was dedicated to serving patients in hospitals all over the world.
Manuel was decorated with Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, Longevity Service Award Ribbon with Five Oak Leaf Cluster. His military education consisted of Strategic Air Command Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, On the Job Manager/Supervisory Training, and Advanced Medical Service Technician. He served in the United States Air Force for twenty-six years before retiring on October 31, 1980.
Following his successful military career, he worked as a Medical Pharmaceutical Representative for Burroughs Wellcome (Galaxo) for 15 years. He also worked for MERK & Company where he served as Executive Hospital Representative in San Diego, CA for 10 years.
Manuel attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Rancho Penasquitos, San Diego, CA and served his local community as Rancho Penasquitos Town councilman for three years. He volunteered his medical service time and skills with Navy Physicians to build a medical clinic for the underprivileged patients of Tijuana, Mexico.
He was a huge sports fan and dedicated to his #1 football Team, Dallas Cowboys.
On Friday, December 18, 2020, surrounded by his family, Manuel passed away peacefully into the arms of his Creator.
Manuel is survived by his wife Margaret of 59 years, his four children, Debbie Hale, Manuel Vallejo Jr, Caroline DeBow, and Sandra Hemmie, his seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Katelyn, Hailey, Alexandria, Brianna, Shawn, and Bryce, and one great-grandchild Kristen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are accepted in honor of Manuel S. Vallejo to either the Parkinson's Foundation or Prostate Cancer Research Institute.
