Obituary

Marilyn Jean Good, whose life was filled with laughter and love, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 14, 2026, at the age of 75.

Born in Portland, Oregon, Marilyn embodied the independent, adventurous spirit of the Pacific Northwest. She was born to Doris and John McKean and, along with her identical twin, was the youngest of six sisters.

In 1983, Marilyn married James Good after the two met during college registration—an ordinary moment that became the beginning of a beautiful and enduring partnership. Together they built a loving family, welcoming their daughter Jennifer in 1985 and their son Richard in 1988.

Marilyn enjoyed a successful career in accounting, where her sharp mind and natural talent for mathematics shone. She was generous with her knowledge and took great pride in passing her skills, confidence, and financial wisdom on to her children—leaving them with a lasting and practical legacy rooted in patience, intelligence, and care.

She was perhaps best known for her unforgettable laugh and her carefree, joyful spirit. Marilyn carried a lightness that put people at ease, and her laughter—freely given and unmistakable—became one of her most cherished trademarks. She loved nature and found comfort in the outdoors, while her appreciation for eclectic art and music fed her creative soul.

Above all, Marilyn treasured her role as "Mimi." Being a grandmother brought her immense joy, and she embraced it with warmth, devotion, and unconditional love. Family was always the center of her world.

In her later years, Marilyn courageously faced dementia following a lifealtering stroke in 2016, which gradually took away her ability to walk and speak. Yet even as so much was lost, one precious part of her endured—her joyful laugh. It remained a powerful reminder of who she was at her core, a light that dementia could not extinguish and a gift to all who loved her. In a final act of generosity, Marilyn donated her brain to support dementia research with the hope of helping future generations.

Marilyn is survived by her devoted husband, James Good; her daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Teran; her son, Richard Good; her grandsons, Ethan Teran, Asher Teran, and Bennett Teran; her sister, Bonnie Boyd; and many nieces, nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris McKean, and her sisters Kristi McKean, Cathy Pond, Sara White, and her identical twin, Carolyn McKean.

Marilyn will be remembered for her laughter, creativity, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy is one of balance—the wisdom to plan for tomorrow and the courage to live fully today. She taught us that being free does not mean being adrift; it means having the foundation to fly.

Marilyn's funeral mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic church on Friday, April 17 th at 11:30am.
