Marion Hale Diller II was born in Findlay, Ohio to Viola Marguerite and Marion Hale Diller Sr., on February 16, 1930. At 17, he enlisted in the Navy where he became an officer and served for 34 years. He traveled the world and was stationed in San Diego three times; Atlanta, Georgia; Adak, Alaska; Whidbey Island, Washington; Sigonella, Sicily; and Olatha, Kansas, among others. He was an electrician, then worked ground control approach for the Navy and the FAA, then on to air traffic control. He served on the USS Bennington, at Nas Atlanta, on the USS Shangri La, on the USS Princeton, as an ATC/Ops Officer and SAR officer on Adak, Alaska and he was also stationed at NAS Miramar and NAAS Kingsville,Texas. He served in the Navy active-duty for 34 years then retired and went to work that afternoon across the hall as a government contractor with Flight International (and it's successors) for another 37 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and son Marion Hale "Bud" Diller, III. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of over 54 years, his sister, Judy Eisenhart of Ohio, his daughters Susan Craig (Robert), Tonya Jennings (Steve), and Katrina Diller (Jeremy) and his eight beloved grandchildren and 4 1/2 great grandchildren. Hale was a loyal, kind, funny, smart and dedicated, hard-working man. He loved music, woodworking, fixing things and sailing. He traced his genealogy back over three hundred years. He was a member, instructor and board member at NYCSD for many years, greatly enjoying racing on Wednesday nights in the summer. His family mattered most - he was always taking care of others first, providing, supporting, and attending events of kids and grandkids. His memorial was held October 20 at the Navy Yacht Club San Diego at Coronado where he was a member for over 20 years. He leaves behind a legacy of commitment and love. He is dearly missed.
